A world-famous female designer, her designs are always fresh and free! That is Zara Hadid - the designer of curves:
Zara Hadid Born in Baghdad, Iraq, she received a BA in mathematics from the American University of Beirut, Lebanon, before studying at the Architectural Association School of Architecture. After graduating, Hadid worked for the OMA (Office for Metropolitan Architecture) of Elia Zenghelis and her former professor: Rem Koolhaas. At the same time, she also worked as an assistant to Rem at the London School of Architecture. In 1979, Hadid founded her own design firm in London. She is currently in charge of the 20,000-seat Aquatics Arena project for the 2012 Summer Olympics in London. She is also a famous interior designer, including the Mind Zone at Richard Rogers' Millennium Arch in London.
Her works are conceptual, with dynamic forms and unique solutions to approach and solve problems. She has continuously participated in international design competitions. Although many of her winning projects were not built, they are notable among them: The Peak Club in Hong Kong in 1983, the Opera House in Cardiff Bay, Wales in 1994. In 1988, she participated in the exhibition Deconstructivist Architecture at the Museum of Modern Art, MoMA, New York City. In 2002, Hadid won the international competition to design the master plan of the Singapore Science Center. In 2004, she was the first female architect to receive the Pritzker Prize. In 2005, she won the competition to design a new casino in Basel, Switzerland. In addition to being a famous architect, she is also known for her work in installation art, paintings and furniture. She was also awarded the CBE. She is currently a member of the editorial board of the Encyclopædia Britannica.
She taught at many major universities around the world, including the School of Visual Arts (Hochschule für Bildende Künste) in Hamburg, Germany, the School of Design at Harvard University, the University of Chicago, and Columbia University in New York City. She taught at the University of Applied Arts Vienna in Austria. On March 31, 2016, Hadid died of cardiac arrest at a hospital in Miami, where she was being treated for bronchitis.
